On April 19, 1943, the SS faceda heroicuprising by fighters who refused to die without a fight. The forces were unequal, and the means of combat were disproportionate. The uprising came to a tragic end on May 16, 1943. Deportees from Auschwitz were temporarily sent to Warsaw to clear the ruins of the ghetto.
