Since the 19th century, a socialist movement has developed in many countries aimed at destroying capitalism, which is viewed as a system of exploitation that breeds wars and hatred among peoples. Religion is seen as the pillar of this system. The Bolshevik Revolution of October 1917, the creation of the Soviet Union, and the founding of the Communist International are seen by many as the first steps toward a world revolution. They gave rise to the hope of a society that would banish social injustice and promote friendship among all nationalities.
Many young Jews who were moved by this message enthusiastically joined the communist movement, which they believed would help eliminate class oppression and anti-Semitism.
