The French Revolution marked a fundamental transformation in the status of Jews in France and made them full citizens. <\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;In the 19th century, Jews were proud to be part of French society and were staunchly republican. For a number of Israelites (long-established French Jews), integration led to assimilation as early as the 19th century. <\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;In the 20th century, for progressive Jews who had immigrated from Eastern Europe, France served as a model of emancipation.
