   After the Liberation of Paris, Resistance fighters from the M.O.I.\u2014of all nationalities\u2014decided to form a battalion integrated into the FFI to continue the fight against the Nazis. The Libert\u00e9 Battalion, designated as Battalion 51\/22, was composed of Resistance fighters of all nationalities who had been fighting since the beginning of the Occupation. <\/p>

   A Jewish company, named after Marcel Rayman, was formed as part of this battalion. Marcel Rayman, a young Polish Jewish communist who had been a member of the FTP-M.O.I. since 1942, was the military leader of the special unit responsible for the most spectacular operations. Marcel Rayman was executed by firing squad in February 1944 at Mont-Val\u00e9rien along with the fighters of the \u201cAffiche rouge\u201d group. <\/p>

    An appeal from the Jewish Patriotic Militia, addressed to the Jews of Paris at the time of the Liberation, concludes as follows: \u201cTo strengthen the participation of the Jewish masses, a Jewish company is being formed and named after Marcel Rayman, the heroic 20-year-old member of the FTP.\u201d The Rayman Company has been integrated into the FFI and will receive military training in the barracks alongside the other divisions. Already, one hundred young Jews have answered our call and have been sent to the Reuilly barracks\u2026\u201d<\/p>

   The 51\/22 Battalion, which had been moved from the Reuilly barracks to Fontainebleau and then to Provins, was kept out of combat by decision of the military authorities, who did not trust the foreign Resistance fighters and were wary of groups organized by nationality. The battalion was eventually disbanded. <\/p>


<\/p>\n

   Some of the recruits were dispersed among units of the regular army, while others were simply demobilized. \u201cSuch was the epilogue of this battalion, whose men were burning with the desire to join the fight against fascism\u2026\u201d (Boris Holban, commander of the 51\/22 Battalion). <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
