Entire families have disappeared; others have been decimated.<\/p>

Some genocide survivors choose to become activists in the French Communist Party or in various progressive and socially oriented parties. Others return to their home countries in the hope of building socialism there. But anti-Semitism persists there, and many, feeling disappointed, will leave\u2026<\/p>

After the restoration of the Republic and the return to democracy they had longed for, many survivors became involved in Jewish organizations that had emerged from the Resistance. They provide material and legal assistance to Jewish families in need. Many <\/strong>activists are involved withthe UJRE<\/a>, which was highly influential in the immediate postwar period. They are working to ensure that the specific role their organizations played in the Resistance is recognized. Theywant to reconnect with the prewar cultural, social, and political movements.<\/span><\/p>

The CCE, the Central Commission for Children<\/a> within the UJRE, was established in 1945. An organization dedicated to caring for Jewish orphans whose parents were exterminated is an absolute priority. Under the leadership of Joseph Minc<\/a>, an initial executive committee is being formed. It is made up of four former members of the M.O.I. resistance movement (C\u00e9cile Cerf<\/a>, Sczmulek Farber<\/a>, Jeanne List-Pakin<\/a>, and Sophie Schwartz<\/a>) and two educators (Louba Pludermacher and Isidore Berstein). The Central Commission for Children, which employs highly innovative teaching methods, is made up of various organizations. Children’s homes (known as “foyers”) provide care for orphans. Youth centers and summer camps take in both orphans and children from Jewish families who escaped the massacre.<\/p>

American Jewish organizations united under JOINT ( <\/a>the International Jewish Relief Organization) provided material assistance to the CCE for a time.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
